New York State’s College Application Month is coordinated by the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) with the goal of providing assistance, encouragement and excitement for the college application process, focused on students from traditionally under-represented populations in the state.
College Application Week/Month is part of the American College Application Campaign (ACAC), a national initiative now spearheaded by the ACT, a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to unlocking potential and creating solutions for K-12 education, college, and career readiness. ACAC began as a pilot at a single high school in North Carolina in 2005 and, since 2014, has included all 50 states.
In 2013, the first year for New York's initiative, over 2,700 New York State students benefitted from week-long activities at pilot sites around the state. New York continues to expand the program statewide, inviting all high schools to participate. Most recently in 2021, over 70,000 students took part in New York's College Application Month.
